Pumpkin picking, hayrides, slides, festivals & more. Fall in RVA is a blast with SO many family-friendly activities and events. Below are my top 10 favorite things to do with kids during the Fall!
1. Slide from a firetruck at Chesterfield Berry Farm
Chesterfield Berry Farm offers an incredible amount of Fall activities! There’s an entire section created for younger kids that includes multiple slides, a dirt “mountain”, rubber duck races, a slide from a firetruck, and more! You’ll also find a tractor wagon ride, barrel ride, pig races, an inflatable zone that includes a GIANT jump pad, and hayrides to a pumpkin patch AND sunflower field.
2024 Opening Date: September 14 (typically open weekends only 9:30am-5pm)

2. Take a picture with the iconic “LOVE” sign at Skinquarter Market
Skinquarter Market in Moseley has free admission and is open during the week. They offer many activities with everything close together, which is great for little ones. You’ll find hayrides, a sand pit, a corn maze, a few hay bales, and the iconic LOVE sign that makes for an adorable photo op!
2024 Opening Date: Mid-September (typically open Mon-Fri 2-6pm and weekends 9am-6pm)

3. Bounce around and paint a free mask at Cross Creek Nursery
Cross Creek Nursery is a hidden gem with free fun for little ones (and also open during the week!). Both the West End and Midlothian locations have Fall activities. Last year, the Midlothian location had a slide and a bounce house to play on, goats, a smoke bubble machine, little play house, and you can paint a free mask or pay to paint little pumpkins. On the weekends there are workshops where you can make your own scarecrow, slime, etc. at an extra cost.
2024 Opening Date: Early September with kids activities coming mid to late September

4. Leap on the giant hay bales at Pole Green Produce
This little stop at the side of the road is perfect for a smaller outing! There are hay bales in a circle where kiddos can hop from one to the next and take slides back down! They also go all out with decorations and have adorable photo ops. This is a great option for pumpkin picking for little ones who may not be ready for the full pumpkin patch experience at a large farm yet.
2024 Opening Date: Typically mid/late September (open during the week as well 8am-7pm daily)
5. Jump into the giant corn pit at Lloyd Family Farms
Lloyd Family Farms has a huge variety of family-friendly activities and I love that they’re all close together. Expect a sand pit with toys, pony rides, animals, a corn maze, hay bale castle with slides, face painting, and of course a big pumpkin patch (with the biggest pumpkins I’ve ever seen!). Our favorite activity here is the GIANT corn pit!
2024 Opening Date: September 21 (typically open Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays 9am-5pm)
6. Light up the trees at Maymont’s Garden Glow
Maymont’s Garden Glow is the most underrated event in RVA and is pure magic! At this glow hike, Maymont’s historic mansion and gardens turn illuminates with color. The carriage house lawn is also turned into a Glow Village full of fun. Our favorite part is hitting drums and making the trees light up!
2024 Opening Date: October 16
