Fall is my favorite season with SO many fun things to do, but it is crazy how quickly the cost of admission at all these places can add up. Here’s my list of FREE things to do this Fall. Many of these options are also open during the week!
1. Crowder Farms
This hidden gem in Mechanicsville has lots of unique activities for kids. It’s also free and open during the week! Games include cornhole, basketball hoops, bowling, and ball toss! There’s photo ops, a little maze plus toys for younger ones to play with, plus picnic tables to sit and have a snack or lunch at.

2. Tom Leonards
The Tom Leonards in Glen Allen/Short Pump is always decked out in Fall decorations. They also have pumpkins, photo ops, and play movies on some Fridays in October! Check their website for more information as Fall continues!
3. Skinquarter Market
Located in the Moseley area, this farm and market has free admission, hayrides, a corn maze, sand pit with toys, and a pumpkin patch. It’s SUPER close to the zoo and makes for a great add on to a visit!
4. Bass Pro Shop Halloween
Bass Pro Shop Ashland has fun little Halloween events that include a 5×7 photo, trick or treating, prizes, and crafts – completely free! 2024 dates and times have not been released, but I’ll update on my Instagram as I learn more!
5. Pole Green Produce
Open during the week, filled with giant decorations, adorable photo ops, and a giant hay bale circle with slides to play on. This spot is located in Mechanicsville very close to Pole Green Park and Historic Pole Green Church if you want to add to your outing!

6. Gallmeyer Farms
This farm is open during the week and admission is free. They also offer free hayrides, a “spooky” house tour, straw bale maze, romping pile, and a picnic and kids play area.
7. Cross Creek Nursery
Paint a free mask, jump on a bounce house, play in a playhouse, pop smoke bubbles, and more! This Fall spot is also open during the week and has 2 locations, Midlothian and West End (Rockville)

8. Hollywood Cemetery
Okay, I know what you’re thinking: “You’re telling me to walk around a CEMETERY?!” I am! Hollywood Cemetery is super cool: great exercise with lots of hills, a ton of history (don’t miss President’s Circle!), and awesome views of downtown and the river. You can also often spot trains!
9. Ghost Church
Historic Pole Green Church is an open air “Ghost Church” that holds a lot of history. It was the first non-Anglican church in Virginia & was burnt down during the Civil War.
This is a good little spot for a picnic and a quick stroller-friendly walk before before heading to the next free Fall spot just 3 mins away – Pole Green Produce

10. Great Big Greenhouse
The Great Big Greenhouse is located in the Bon Air area and has lot of fall activities with Halloween themed games, a bounce house, and spooky bus. Word on the street is this year it will be Scooby Doo themed!
